The idea being that most mobile users tend to operate\u00a0their devices with one hand while only partially paying attention.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reference:\u00a0<\/strong>The phrase was created by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lukew.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Luke Wroblewski<\/a>\u00a0in his book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abookapart.com\/products\/mobile-first\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Mobile First<\/i>.\u00a0<\/a>In the book Wroblewski writes,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"Thinking 'one eyeball, one thumb' forces you to simplify mobile designs so they can be understood and used in these kinds of situations.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Thoughts:\u00a0<\/strong>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uxmatters.com\/mt\/archives\/2013\/02\/how-do-users-really-hold-mobile-devices.php?\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a>\u00a0in 2013 demonstrated\u00a0that 75% of smartphone users still operate mobile\u00a0devices with one hand (be that holding it with one hand or cradling it).\u00a0It is also understood that many smartphone users do not give the device their full\u00a0attention all the time.
